Chromatography is a separation technique based on the different mobility which have different solutes contained in the same solvent. The means by which they move is called stationary phase and the solvent through which solutes move is called the mobile phase. This solvent can be a gas or liquid, although we only deal with the mobile phase liquid chromatography and solid stationary phase. Practice we do on this occasion is:
Chromatography of spinach extract

MATERIAL

2 beakers, a square piece of cardboard used as a cover, filter paper , dropper, mortar.
Products:
Alcohol, sand, spinach.

PROCEDURE

Chop the spinach in a mortar with a little sand.
Add alcohol and stir until you see the color of spinach has absorbed the alcohol let it stand. Go
the solution to a beaker.
Prepare a filter paper strip 4 cm wide and 10 cm in length.
Fill the dropper with the solution of the dye of spinach.
Make a small spot about 4 cm from one end of the dropper on the strip of paper. Wait to dry the stain and repeat the process 3 or 4 times so that the stain is more concentrated.

Insert it into a beaker with alcohol 've previously covered with cardboard (1cm high alcohol) without stain touch the eluent.
After some time distinguish you a dark green line corresponds to chlorophyll b, the other light green of chlorophyll a, one more yellow xanthophyll orange and yellow carotenoids.
